Details to Follow

Today I catch up with some observations I promised in previous posts.

BABEL: gritty and heartbreaking. I found it much like TRAFFIC in its three connected, but not, storylines. The lucky Fanning family has two cute kids, those girls are just adorable. Never thought I'd see Brad holding Cate while she peed, but, okay. Also, that brings me to a different Cate point: she's a workaholic. At the previews last night, she was the star of two of them (the young boy madly in love with his teacher and vice-versa NOTES ON A SCANDAL, as well as the black-and-white-world-war-throwback THE GOOD GERMAN) not to mention two more productions currently in post-production and another currently being filmed. Phew!

But lest I babble on... ha! I went to see it because it was the longest movie up at the local screen, and I wanted to get my money's worth of something. It was good, because I like kleenex-films: SOPHIE'S CHOICE, HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, LIFE AS A HOUSE. These are all, in their own ways, kleenex-films, and I like them. So there.

DREAMGIRLS SDTK: I confess I haven't listened to the entire thing yet. So I withold comment.

IDEAS: Cattleworks lambasted me, well, seemed surprised, when I said I was out of ideas. And, to everyone's credit, I haven't been in need of post topics in a few days. They've actually been flying around inside my head waiting to get some keyboard action. However, I do need to address his comment about Queen City Theatre, and theatre in general.

See, I was writing early in this blog's history, about my experiences at the theatre across the country. However, my standards are high, and a lot of what I was seeing was garnering negative reviews from me. Then, it happened that one of those people worked with a friend of mine, and I came awfully close to getting sacked for having written a bad review about said person and then actually working with them. I don't want to put myself in the position where I have to defend or not defend my views, so I simply am not going to post negative reviews of stage productions.

However, some other topics you brought up are worthy of chatter, and I look forward to considering them in the future. Happy Saturday.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Part of me figured that commenting on possible stages of employment and their possible employers would be a drawback for a working actor.
As it is, in my own meager efforts in blogging, I refer to some local people and I'm sure my comments will eventually haunt me.
So, part of me feels I should be more discreet and part of me feels that being candid occasionally is one of the true benefits of writing a blog.
So, I guess I have some conflicts of interest there.
Well, I attempt to be discreet-ish, but we'll see when something bites me in the ass.
Although, the best case scenario is, someone reads my blog and calls me on something I've said and then some actual conversation transpires.
Which is the best moment for a blog, when there's some connection going on.
Although, at the same time, if there's a true difference of opinion, and some actual anger or hurt feelings that I may have caused, that would be terribly upsetting to me.

Hmmph.

I guess my fuzzy rule of thumb is to be honest in attempting to articulate my feelings about something or someone, positive or negative, yet also be respectful, versus being witty purely for a joke's sake and hence being a prick, because the humor's at someone's expense. You know?

But having said that, I still tend to err more on saying nothing at all (unless I'm worked up about something, like my post on the screening of the POTPD at the Terminal
(http://cattleworks.livejournal.com/5179.html#cutid1 ). Someday the producer may read it and have some choice things to tell me, or just rather not have me work on his future films, depending on how sensitive he is. Hopefully, he'll just tell me off in a comment-- because I'm a whore for comments! Uh...did I mention the conflict of interest thing..?)
But with this whole Project 365 deal going on, hell! Deadlines are now suddenly in the mix, so discipline and courtesy be damned! Anything's possible!

haha! very true about discipline and courtesy be damned. anyhow, your thoughts make sense, and i guess part of me agrees and wants to be able to be honest and critique seriously, because that's what journalists do, right? but, the other part of me wants to continue to be able to get work, or get along with people i'm working with. i guess i'll save the negative and/or honest writings for my real-life, hard copy journals, and express my thoughts there rather than in this crazy world of cyberspace... where a google search of one's name can lead to things from waaaaaaaaaaaay back a long time ago. yikes!
