Two Happy Endings

Julie and the Beatles
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE has its moments, but in all, I guess I just didn't like it. Don't get me wrong, FRIDA is one of my favorites, but this one just doesn't have that same spark. Of course, it would have been better after a few magical brownies ("reefer madness, reefer madness!")... Some very touching scenes, neat colors and spectacle, but overall rather blah.

I Was Going to Go Anyway
...even if I didn't get a free pass. ENCHANTED, first of all, is narrated by none other than that glorious voice of voices, Ms Disney herself, Julie Andrews. Also a venerable who's who of Broadway (including Tonya Pinkins in a hysterical scene or two), this new flick from the Mouse is ... well, enchanting. Amy Adams is beautiful and does a brilliant job. I guess I just had a big smile on the whole time - sure, it's for the kids, but hey, I'm still a kid.

I haven't really read any reviews for ACROSS but for some reason I'm getting a "blah" or "eh" vibe from it.
Part of me feels compelled to watch it, at some point, out of sheer artistic support for Julie Taymor.

I thought the trailer for ENCHANTED was pretty damn funny. I'm interested in checking that out.
Of course, I've wanted to check out the new HALLOWEEN and especially SHOOT 'EM UP and I haven't gotten my butt to the theater yet.
Oh, but I have seen HOT FUZZ on DVD.
Also pretty damn funny.
You should check it out if you haven't already, stud. You may appreciate its cast, too.
If you do watch it, that's an uncredited Cate Blanchett as Nicholas Angel's ex-girlfriend behind the mask in the beginning.

Hey!
I just noticed:
"Gave up on...
CATCH-22"

Couldn't get into it?
Didn't like it?
Too distracted?
What the heck?

I'm trying to read Scott Smith's follow-up to A SIMPLE PLAN called THE RUINS.
It's a horror novel and involves deadly plants...

22 was just too much for me. i started earlier this summer, mid august or so, and thought i was really going to like it... but it just got boring. i've been reading so many books about war, it seems (of course, CAINE is no different), but... no, just couldn't get into it. i didn't care about yossarian or the things he did or didn't do that may or may not have caused him pain or not depending on if he actually did them or if he didn't do them then he would still have to because he didn't already, but if he just did it it would be over and then he wouldn't have to do it again... and uggh!

saw the doc the other week. she seems well. hope you're the same.
